Buffanblu girls pull off unexpected

Punahou’s group of “sisters” made use of an unexpected day off, going on a two-mile training run together.

“It kept us in the mindset,” Punahou’s Kaimana Lundquist said of Saturday’s run. “We really wanted that championship.”

Buffanblu boys dominate, celebrate

Punahou’s championship finish looked nothing like the season it had.

The Buffanblu traded grins, high-fives and lei after winning their fourth straight Chevron/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships yesterday. Together, they celebrated at the Blaisdell Arena after finishing with 240 points.

Punahou keeps girls title

Both Punahou and Kahuku found themselves somewhat short-handed entering the final day of the state girls wrestling championships.

When the final tally came in, Punahou had scraped together just enough points to fend off the Red Raiders and retain the state title.

Buffanblu keep a firm grip on boys team title

The four-peat was never in danger, not even after stunning losses by two of their top-seeded wrestlers.

In the end, Punahou was simply too deep, amassing 240 points to win its fourth straight title at the Chevron/HHSAA Boys Wrestling State Championships yesterday at Blaisdell Arena.

Mowat’s magical season capped with state crown

After capturing a state wrestling championship on Sunday afternoon at Blaisdell Arena, Lahainaluna High School’s Holden Mowat had just one thing on his mind.

”I’m a magician,” the senior said. ”I told myself I wouldn’t touch my magic stuff until the end of the season.

Kam wrestler wins title

It had been three years since a Big Island Interscholastic Federation girl won a state wrestling title, but that all came to an end Sunday as a competitor in the smallest weight division came up big.

Kamehameha’s Megan Aina worked her way through two days of competition to conquer the 98-pound division at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association championships at the Baisdell Arena in Honolulu.
