Everyone was able to sleep in eat breakfast, then
gather over at the Fargodome  to watch Josh wrestle.

Team Hawaii wrestling concluded the 2013 USAW Cadet
and  Junior Nationals with a victory as Josh Terao
won his 7th place All American match!
After lunch in the cafeteria the team headed over
to Thunder Road Family Fun Center! Everyone had
fun, racing go-karts, playing miniature golf, lazer tag and hitting balls
in the batting cage!
Team meetings, packing and cleaning dorm rooms finished the day, tomorrow
we leave for Minneapolis where we fly home from!
Stay tuned, I will post more tomorrow!

Joshanddavecrop2Joshua Terao continued his All-American run, finishing the 2013 ASICS/Vaughan Juniors and Cadets National Championships with an 7th Place, 11-0 technical fall win over Illinois Steve Polakowski in the 120 lbs. Junior Freestyle weight class.

Terao rose to the top of the 3 day freestyle wrestling odyssey through a weight class containing 102 wrestlers.  He added his 2013 Freestyle All-American finish to his 2013 Junior Greco-Roman Championship earned earlier in the week.

Terao wrestled throughout the tournament with his Brother, American University Wrestlers David Terao, in his corner as a coach.

Eventual 2013 126 lbs. Champion, Nathan Tomasello of Ohio won a rare third straight Fargo Championship.

Led by now three-time Fargo Champion Teshya Alo, six (6) Team Hawaii 2013 women earned  All-American status in the Junior Freestyle Division of the ASICS/Vaughan Juniors and Cadets National Championships.

In the 97 lbs. weight class, Maia Phathandara finished third, with Thai Ha Sloan earning sixth place after sitting out her final two matches with an injury.

In the 117 lbs. weight class, Rebekah Johnson ended her high school wrestling career as the eighth best in the nation.

Kristin Yamasaki distinguished herself in emphatic fashion with a dominant pin to take third in the 121 lbs. weight class.

Alo continued her dominant ways, pinning her opponent in the Championship match and finishing her run in both the Cadet and Junior 125 lbs. weight classes without a single point being scored on her.  The 2013 US Cadet World Team Member’s 2013 Cadet and Junior National Championships now share trophy case space with her 2012 Cadet National Championship as well as the 2013 Body Bar Championship.

Shannon Paaaina finished Team Hawaii 2013’s All-American haul with a sixth place finish in the 130 lbs. weight class.

Sunday July 14, 2013

Up early with the Cadet boys for weigh-in
at the Fargodome; despite some  struggles
in the last couple of days, everyone made
Fargo is tough, arguably the toughest high
school tournament in the world!

Today  the Cadet boys learned just how tough! Thirteen Cadets started the Greco Roman
competition, only one made into the third session tomorrow.
Liam Corbett with a  4-1 record today, will compete tomorrow for All American status!
Jordan NG,  Joshua Crimmins, Matthew Aguigui and Zachary Diamond all got wins but
eventually  were eliminated with 2-2 records.
The day was busy with coaches scrambling from  one mat to another as the wrestler
came down on the floor. Chaperones in the  stands tracked the mat assignments on
line and communicated by Radio to help the coaches!
In the evening the team had a practice before dinner! In the cafeteria  plans
were set for tomorrow's Junior Greco and Junior girls weigh-ins and  competition!

Stay tuned, I will blog more tomorrow!

MAHALO for your reports, Coach Mac!

Sunday July 7, 2013
Team Hawaii checks in at the Honolulu International Airport for the long journey to
the mainland to compete in the 2013 USAW Cadet and Junior Nationals. After a
careful head count by head coach Kevin Corbett, the wrestlers, coaches and
chaperones make their way through security and board the first of two flights.
This year Team Hawaii has 3 wrestlers from Kauai, 2 from Maui and 1 each from
Molokai and Hawaii Island. Twenty  two wrestlers from Oahu complete the team of
29 Hawaii grapplers, 11 girls and 18 boys.

Monday July 8, 2013
Despite a couple of delays, Team Hawaii makes it to Brookings South Dakota just
about 2 hours past the planned arrival time! The team gets checked in to South
Dakota State University Abbott Hall dormitory, and assembles outside for a
distance run before dinner! After dinner Coach Corbett conducts a team meeting
and lays out the schedule for tomorrow!

Tuesday July 9, 2013
By 6:30 am the team is on another distance run before breakfast! After  breakfast,
we have our first practice in the SDSU wrestling room! Any one who  has been there
in the summer knows, it is hot! Team Hawaii starts to become  acclimated, and time
change adjusted. After lunch we are back in the wrestling  room for our second
practice. Coach Corbett and staff assess the performance  and are generally pleased
with the first couple of practices. Several wrestlers  check in with the SDSU trainers
for minor injuries, everyone is released and  expected to practice tomorrow! After
dinner, Coach Corbett conducts a meeting,  lays out the schedule for tomorrow, and
reviews the weight check roster; several  wrestlers do an evening run for calorie burn!
As I type this, I hear Coach  Daniel Johnson walking the dormitory hall announcing
lights out in 15 minutes.  Tomorrow morning we will be up bright and early for another
day of training!

Wednesday July 10, 2013
Up at 6:00 am for another distance run before breakfast! First practice of the  day
was focused more on technique with less live wrestling, Coach Corbett decided to
slow the pace down a bit! Second practice was coached by two very  tough SDSU
wrestlers who generously donated their time! It is always good to  learn new
variations of technique, especially from guys who can demonstrate  with precision!
At just about dinner time we got the word that Team South Dakota was on campus!
Coach Corbett, Coach Tyler and myself met up with the  coaching staff in the
wrestling room and planned a practice with them tomorrow!  After dinner Team Hawaii
went to the movies!
