He was definetly stalling, I peronally think that LJ deserved it and not the other guy.

Neither LJ or Pico deserve anything. It's what they earn. And Pico earned the title.

…..I wouldn’t say Pico earned it, one more stalling call and you wouldn’t have been saying what you just said. Also Pico was not hurt, he just needed a rest, Pico is shit compared to LJ. He doesn’t deserve it, LJ was on his ass the whole fight, Pico should have gotten a stalling call in the beginning. I’ve never seen a punahou wrestler not attacking when they are given opportunities, their coach is doing something right.

How can you say the loser deserved it? honestly if he deserved it then he would have won plain and simple, regardless of what might happen.

Did you leave the camera running for the whole match?

If so, could you post all the breaks too?

The video doesn't show a clear picture of lj's shoulders, so the pin or not question is still up for debate. However, due to the way pico was holding the pin, I would be inclined to say that he didn't have enough pressure on lj's far shoulder to put it to the mat. Pico was scooping lj's arm with an under hook, which could have also been preventing lj's shoulder from being pinned. If pico was able to get control of the wrist by following the arm and then posting the wrist, lj's shoulder would have prob been more flat.

Rest of the periods, pico pretty much stalled out, if this wasn't clear to you, you need to get better glasses or read the rule book again. The last two stalls at the end of the 3rd were clearly deserved, pico was lucky they never came earlier. Pico clearly was backing up and showing no attempt at offense.

Overtime takedown was fair, I was on the other side and I remember pico covering lj's hips. Even with your opponent having your leg, if you can show control of the hips, it is still considered a takedown. That is what pico did, and he did win the takedown… Would have been more exciting and dramatic to see the extra overtimes though 😉 :p

While we could debate the calls for ever, it didn't look like a pin, the stalling calls were deserved, and the take down call was reasonable. The refs had responsibility and the best vantage point to make the calls. Both wrestlers worked hard had good seasons and deserved to be finalists.

Congratulations Jon Pico, on your Championship, Congratulations LJ Remillard on your second place finish.

Most of the calls that night was favoring Punahou, for example this match and the 171 state title match where Cooper got called for the stalling even thou the audience could see Patrick was doing nothing to improve his position.

Cooper was parallel with Sheehan. That's why he was called. In other words you can't hang on to the back without doing anything either.

    • Colby Bungcayao says:

A punahou status wrestler would try to improve his position and we could all see that Cooper was trying to work pinning combinations.

Punahou fans are complaining about stalling tactics when someone is up in the match???

how ironic. isn't that how everyone feels about punahou? (albeit a lot less obvious) how dumb would it have been for Pico to not stall with a lead like that? you can accuse him for stalling, but you can't accuse him for not being smart.

You don't know what you're saying, it may be looked on as smart, but to any good wrestler, coach or parent it's disrespectful to the sport. And you don't know your stuff because 9 times out of 10 it isn't Punahou Stalling. And don't even bring in the Cooper – Sheehan match. That's a different story and there are many factors regarding Cooper's win. Hard work is most of it, but there was a factor of unluckiness on the Punahou side and I think we all know what that was. But most people don't understand the repercussions that punahou felt when Evan Johnson was sent to the hospital. To see a captain, leader, fellow warrior and good friend go down like that, yes it does fire them up, but it hurt and there were tears shed that night for him. And to see them win was inspirational, you don't even understand. Go ahead and make a nasty comment, that doesn't matter Punahou earned they're title. They work harder and under Coach Matt they always will.

Punahou wrestling pretty much sucks. They win because everyone sucks more.

  9. The Truth Hurts says:

If Punahou sucks and everyone sucks worse, where do you fit in my friend????
