Remembering Chanse Uyeda

The Hawaii wrestling community lost one of our own last week. Chanse Uyeda (Lahainaluna ’12) died in a tragic moped accident July 25. By all accounts, Chanse was a great young man and certainly proved himself well on the mat, winning the 145 lb. State Championship his junior year.  Injuries plagued him his senior year, preventing him from making it back to the finals and defending his championship. But he competed with all the intensity and heart of a true champion and represented himself and his team well.

The Maui News published a great remembrance of Chanse and you can read it here. We at Matside only knew him on the mat and in his honor, would like to republish what was probably his finest wrestling moment.

We the family of Chanse would like to thank the wrestling community for being a part of his life. Fargo coaches, all other coaches who gave him lessons on and off the mat.
