A BIG MAHALO to the Team Hawaii 2013 Coaching Staff who led the Team through two weeks of mainland travel, 3 National Championships, and 11 All-American honors.

They are:

Head Coach Kevin Corbett

Assistant Coach Tyler Diamond

Assistant Coach Daniel Johnson

Assistant Coach Joyce Johnson

Assistant Coach Stephanie “Sarara” Mix

Assistant Coach William “Bill” Mix

Assistant Coach Ray “Coach Mac” Pigott

Assistant Coach Jackie Quiggle

Assistant Coach David Terao

Participation in the 2013 Asics/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championship in Fargo, North Dakota was possible through the help of these coaches who in addition to volunteering their time and expertise also paid for their own travel.

We are very fortunate this year to have had such great group of coaches working together to support Team Hawaii.  The planning for the trip began months before the tournament.  Facility use and practices schedules had to be coordinated around work schedules and other personal commitments.

In addition to their coaching duties, our coaches helped house neighbor island wrestlers for a week prior to their departure.  At the Team Hawaii’s training camp in South Dakota, our coaches (with the help of parent chaperones) went grocery shopping and cooked meals to help reduce the cost of the trip.

Head Coach Corbett did a wonderful job coordinating everyone at his disposal to help.  It took a team effort of Coaches, Chaperons, and Parents to successfully manage Team Hawaii’s 29 Wrestlers throughout this tournament.

The demands on the coaches were great with up to 25 mats going at the same time, a football field in distance to cover, up to two divisions going simultaneously, and multiple entries in the same weight class potentially going at the same time.

Practices for the other wrestlers not in session overlap with those in session and every wrestler has their own individual issues from injuries to making weight that need special attention from time to time.  Even making sure the wrestlers do their own laundry is in itself a task.

Special Mahalo to Assistant Coach Charles Ariola and Halau Lokahi Public Charter School for his coaching expertise hosting Team Hawaii 2013 training in Honolulu.

Additional Mahalo to other Coaches and volunteers in Hawaii who contributed to the success of Team Hawaii 2013.

And they blame Robinson for money mismanagement, so everything for Fargo was itemized and the parents paid in full so where did the $200 Misc Money go per child x 30 wrestlers=$6000, hmmmmmmm makes you wonder…..since all that was paid to HFUSAW and everything else was paid for by he parents.. Makes you wonder….

I can attest that Coach Rob was never dishonest with funds. He always went out of his way to make sure every kid that wanted to go to Fargo had a chance to go. Even if that meant selling his home in order to buy tickets. Back in the early 2000s we took over 50 kids one year. About a dozen of them were from outer island. And Coach Rob housed and fed virtually all of those kids at his own home for weeks before Fargo. Free of charge!
Sure, he may not have been the best administrator. But I can guarantee you he always had the kids best opportunity and interest number one in his heart and in his head.
Sometimes people don't know when they actually have it good and the grass always looks greener.
I miss and still support team Hawaii in everything they do. And I know Coach Rob feels the same.
If there is ever anything I can do to help on my end please don't hesitate to ask. And I'm sure Coach Rob still feels the same. He is not a spiteful man.

  15. Billy says:

With all that being said let me say that I do support Coach Kevin and the other coaches of team Hawaii. I have worked with Kevin and feel he is a good man. I feel that we have a friendship between us. Me and coach Mac go way back and are stull friends to this day as well. David, Tyler and Sarara were awesome wrestlers and im sure are equally as passionate as coaches.
I did not mean it to sound like team Hawaii got a bum deal. I was merely trying to put to rest some of the rumors that I heard were going around about Coach Rob. He did his best, just like all coaches try to do.
    Mahalo,
    Billy

If Jordan can win a title on a broken ankle…
    Hawaii wrestling can move forward.
    Let's grow our clubs
    Let's bring out the numbers
    Let's raise our level
Let's take our best to Nationals
This guy is so inspirational I want the next generation of Hawaii wrestlers to see what a real hero looks like.
So proud to be a part of this sport!!!!!!!!
